KAMIAKIN KNOWLEDGE BOWL
Coach Gary Kleinknecht
Knowledge Bowl is a question and answer academic team contest.
Teams begin a tournament by taking a 60 question multiple choice test. After the tests are scored, the teams are arranged in "power" groups of three teams. The first group consists of the three teams with the top test scores, the second group consists of the the three teams with the next highest scores and so on. The groups then answer 60 oral questions and the number of questions answered correctly is added to their written test score to determine team rank. Teams are then arranged into new "power" groups. The oral round process is repeated two more times and the team with the highest combined score wins the tournament.
A broad range of knowledge, acute listening skills, and the ability to analyze questions and anticipate what the question is asking are key to Knowledge Bowl success.
In nine years of Knowledge Bowl competition Kamiakin teams have competed in the Washington State tournament each year, been state champions five times and placed second once.
